The coastline along the Pacific Ocean of California and Oregon was heavily traveled in the 19th Century. Ships were the primary form of distribution of goods, lumber and people. The region is densely forested and crisscrossed by rivers. A strong maritime tradition derived ffom subsistence of resources available from the Ocean and freshwater sources. Such as fish, marine mammals, and woodland mammals, and shorebirds.
The individuals who braved this frontier faced adverse weather conditions, disease, pirates, starvation, hostile indigenous groups, This required a skillset of survival and physical stregnth. The ability to adapt to an unpredictable environment while relying on limited resources and isolation.
This is a list of the ships reported to have sailed alomg this corridor. As San Francisco was a major Port from which most products were gathered from all over the world. After which, the products were redistributed up and down the coast.
