La desheredada

The disinherited, which takes place in what has come to be known and studied as the Madrid of Galdos or Galdosian Madrid, narrates the misadventures of Isidora -the supposedly disinherited-, a pretty girl who arrives in the Spanish capital 'full of illusions, falls into prostitution and ends up in jail. 'A dreamy sensibility that has been led to believe the heir of a marquisate. In this regard, Casalduero, correctly reading Galdos, notes that 'an impostor like Isidora can have tragic greatness when he himself is deceived; otherwise he is a vulgar faker'.
