Our Jealous God



Most of us know some of God's names such as Jehovah Jireh - meaning He's the Lord who provides, and Jehovah Rapha - the Lord our Healer, He's also given Himself the name El Kanna, which is translated as the Jealous God. Although jealousy can often be sinful, Paul wrote that he had a godly jealousy over the Corinthians, and since God is holy, we can be sure that His jealousy over us is a good thing.



It's the worship of idols that provokes God to jealousy and grieves His heart. As the New Testament expands the definition of idolatry to covetousness, this means anything we desire or look to more than God can become an idol.
