Denne smukke historie vil givetvis være fantastisk hvis man en alder eller interesse med større referenceramme til 60'erne og 70'ernes kunst scene end jeg. Men dog også en poetisk fortælling for mig også.

Min absolutte nye yndlingsbog. Sproget, detaljerne og historien i sig selv. En kunster der lever for netop at være dét. Og sidst men ikke mindst en historie om en verden for sig selv på det mytiske Chelsea Hotel.

This marvelous autobiography tells the unique love story and union in art of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe during the late sixties, seventies and early eighties. Tender, beautiful and poetic, it gave me goosebumps many times and especially towards the end. I had to reread the last couple of chapters right away because they so vividly brought out those feelings I had when my dad was ill and passing less than 2 years ago. It made me feel the beauty of those moments of sadness and closeness in a way that no other piece of literature ever has. However, there were a few chapters in the middle that dragged on a bit too long which prevents me from giving this book the full five stars. But truly, if you have experienced a great loss of an artistic soul or someone with whom you had a special bond, I think you'd also find these beautiful words comforting and uplifting. An ode to how life can indeed go on after great sorrow.
