Journalists as Media Educators

In this book, Maarit Jaakkola offers a theoretically-rich and ambitious approach to journalistic media education, contributing to ongoing academic discussions on the pedagogical opportunities of journalistic production by defining the concept, placing it in the context of established best practices of newswork and industry stakeholder collaborations in media organizations, and envisioning it as a future paradigm for audience engagement and development. Building on existing traditions and research on newsroom-school collaborations, media and news literacy movements, and strategic communication for media and cultural organizations, Jaakkola expands upon the concept of journalistic media education in order to develop the public pedagogies carried out by news organizations and stakeholders.
