First published in 1950, Jewish Religious Conflicts gives an account of the principal cleavages that have taken place within the Jewish people since the close of the Old Testament over questions of religious faith, doctrine and practice. While passing in review the chief sects that have formed themselves during that period, it pays particular attention to the most recent cleavages, those between the 'orthodox' and 'reform', and between the 'conservative' and 'liberal' movements, which are dividing the Jewish community.
