International Bibliography of Explanatory Essays on Individual Proverbs and Proverbial Expressions

This bibliography represents the first attempt at indexing the vast number of scholarly monographs and articles that explain the origin, the history and the meaning of an individual proverb or proverbial expression. Over 2000 investigations from the 18th century to the present day are assembled alphabetically according to English keywords. They were found in hundreds of books, journals and bibliographies from such varied fields of study as folklore, history, law, literature, medicine, philology, etc. The international character of the bibliography is a result of the inclusion of American, Dutch, English, French, German and Latin sources.
