Insect Disinfestation of Food and Agricultural Products by Irradiation

This book examines the issues and the practicalities of using radiation disinfestation as an alternative to the use of chemical pesticides to control storage losses caused by insects. The book is based on a meeting sponsored by IAEA and FAO. The findings are the result of many years of research conducted worldwide on radiation disinfestation of food and agricultural products. Advantages include no undesirable residues in the foods, no resistance developed by the insects and no significant changes in the physiochemical properties or the nutritive value of the treated products.
