In No Particular Order: A year in upstate New York drinking beer and being lonely

When your company offers you a promotion on the condition you move a thousand miles from your family, do you? What if that thousand miles is to the snowy Northeast? That's the situation I faced in 2014: get ahead in my career by moving, knowing my family absolutely wasn't going to join me. Go an adventure and, for the first time in my career, have a chance to move beyond cubicle-dwelling drone life, to stop being just the white-collar ditch digger, to have an actual opportunity. I took the chance, making the most of the opportunity, and while the career move didn't pan out into anything great, it gave me a chance to learn more about who I am than is healthy.
