I Tried Church But Church Wouldn't Try Me

To be called to ministry, educated for ministry, ordained to ministry, and give all to ministry, as if life itself, or salvation, depended on the ministry-what is it like to "try Church" only to find you have made your bed in "hell" and Church will not "try you back"? To try Church but Church will not try back, what is it then to escape that "hell" and make your bed in "heaven"? What was the escape, and what is the "heaven"? What was the ministry in "hell" that made it "hell," and is there a subsequent ministry in or from "heaven"? These questions are addressed to the American Church-Baptist and Methodist, white and black-but the answers are relevant to the entire Church. The documents herein, ranging over a period of two decades-proposals, sermons, letters, a pamphlet handed out among 10,000 at a General Conference-were not just apropos and prophetic "back then." They still are apropos and prophetic "right now," right now fresh and relevant and addressed to the American Church.
