Lt. Colonel Margaret Wainwright returned to Latitude, Alabama after a career in the air force. Now tired and war weary after twenty years on active duty, she has come home to a neglected old house bequeathed to her by a maiden aunt. As she settles in, with the help of old friends nearly forgotten and new friends she'd just met, she begins to make the old house a home. Jim MacQuaid came home from war after being injured on duty years before. Now comfortable in his new life with his extended family, he reconnects with Margaret, the bratty kid he'd once teased. As he begins to know her as an adult and his feelings begin to grow, he is forced to deal with demons and issues he had ignored far too long. Margaret and Jim may have known each other as children, but a lot of years have passed since their school days. Together they begin to bridge those absent years as he helps her put her house in order and their friendship grows. Will it be strong enough to turn their burgeoning feelings into the happy ever after kind of love?
