Holding Brody

Life is never what it seems and the people around us are also not who you think they are.

Laying in a hospital bed in the Maternity Ward Alys doesn't recognize her life. After she has suffered significant losses, she is trying hard to maintain her stress level to prevent her son from being born too soon. Her husband is gone. The Navy has been very tight-lipped as to what has happened. They have no intel on his whereabouts and that is assuming he is still alive. They have labeled his status as MIA: Missing in Action.

Although she has an extended loving family they are smothering her. She doesn't want to feel ungrateful, but their constant presence and attention create additional stress. She feels like a fish in a bowl, everyone is watching her and waiting for her to finally fall appart. She doesn't recognize the person she has become. She always felt she could handle anything that life threw her way, but now she's not so sure.

The only time she is truly at peace is when she dreams of him. Every night she has a dream. Some of her dreams are vivid memories, times they shared as others are clips of a future with their son. She holds on to those images. They are very real. When she wakes she often can still smell the rain or feel the dirt from the fields. Although she dreams of many happy loving times together with him there are also dreams that are frightening. The dreams show places, people, and things she doesn't understand or like. She often wakes from them feeling even more stressed than before.

There are only dreams... right? There is no truth to them. How could she know anything about the mission he was on that resulted in his capture? She had to be making up things in her mind. A result of her overactive imagination to the stress caused by the unknown of his disappearance. Surly the images of one of his own betraying him was not an accurate truth. She's meet all his teammates and none of them would turn on the other... right? Unsure or even convinced that the dreams she has been experiencing are real she decided to ignore what her head and heart are telling her. She needs to focus on her son and keep calm. As time slowly ticks by it doesn't matter what she tells herself she can't deny that something is not right and not everyone is whom they say they are, but what can she do about it? Will she reach out to get help and risk being made a fool or could the images from her dream really help find her husband. She wants to believe him still alive even with all the evidence that says otherwise. He tells her, in her dreams to hold on. That he loves her and he is holding her in his heart as she is holding him in hers until he can hold her again. Does she believe the unbelievable?

This book is part of the series and needs to be read after Loving Alys book 3. You do not need to read books 1 and 2 to understand this story, however, they are recommended to understand the other characters in the series.
