Leadership is in crisis. We all feel that unqualified and irresponsible individuals occupy positions of power: strongmen and autocrats consolidating their rule while people lose hope for a better future. How did we get here? Can we correct our course?

For the past decade, Moshik Temkin has challenged his Harvard students to grapple with the nature of leadership in his course Leaders and Leadership in History. Now, in Warriors, Rebels, and Saints, he reshapes the classroom to reach a broader audience. Using art, film, and literature to illustrate the past, Temkin explores how great leaders have made decisions in the most challenging circumstances, from Machiavelli to Franklin D.
