Beskrivelse

Bridgeton and Dalmarnock in the East End of the City of Glasgow, once the manufacturing and industrial heart of the city, suffered a long period of economic decline between the mid-twentieth and the early twenty-first century. Tens of thousands of jobs were lost and the demolition of factories and tenements created large pockets of vacant and derelict land that remained until the area became the heart of one of the UK's largest regeneration areas just prior to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This collection of original acrylic paintings by the author captures everyday life as it was when the author was a child growing up in the East End of Glasgow. The paintings are comprehensively captioned with snippets of local history. Apart from the occasional painting most of the scenes are from the 1950s and 1960s. Images include famous and historic landmarks such as the Bridgeton Cross Umbrella, the Olympia Building and the Scottish Baronial style, Rutherglen Town Hall. There are also images of buildings, structures and transport of bygone days.
