Há três anos, a Universidade de Sonora me deu uma bolsa de estudos para realizar pesquisas sobre migrantes no município de Xilitla, uma cidade mágica na região de Huasteca, em San Luis Potosi, México. Naquela época, eu havia realizado uma revisão do estado do conhecimento sobre migração na América Central, no México e nos Estados Unidos. Grossly the literature mentioned that the migration phenomenon involved the adaptation of migrant flows in central areas by their economy, but there were also indications that migrants assimilated the culture that received them, although the most critical works warning of a multicultural identity that the descendants of migrants selected not longer to adjust to the imponderables, but to transformate and innovate their environment.Com base nestas referências, propus um estudo quantitativo dos fluxos migratórios na área de Huasteca, a fim de antecipar cenários de vulnerabilidade, marginalidade e exclusão que comprometeriam o Desenvolvimento Local da região.
