Beskrivelse
The fourth book in the Canadian geology series includes discussion of Alberta's geological history, stratigraphy, and tectonics beginning with the Canadian Shield, regional tectonic summary, the Hearne Province, the Southern Interior Plains, Phanerozoic cover including the Athabasca Polymorphic Terrane, the Sauk Sequences, the Hume-Dawson Sequence, and the western platform, basins, and reefs. The Pallister Sequence, and a summary of the transgressive, regressive, and tectonism effects are included. Stratigraphic discussions focus on the Carboniferous, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous deposits, closing out with the Tertiary and Quaternary Periods in Part I. Part II presents the British Columbia Provincial geology beginning with the Precambrian Basement rocks, and the Cordilleran basement Proterozoic assemblages. The ancestral North American miogeocline and Paleozoic sequences are discussed next. Mesozoic Era and Cordilleran terranes are followed by the tectonic history of the Slide Mountain Terrane as it relates to Quesnellia. The Intermontane Superterrane including the Coast Belt, the Alexander, and Wrangellia terranes are included. The section closes out with summary sections on Upper Jurassic to Paleogene assemblages, Neogene, Metamorphism, Quaternary glaciation and sedimentation, and modern plate tectonic regimes.
