Fundamentals of Agronomy

Agronomy, which serves as the foundation of agricultural sciences, is essential for developing a strong base of knowledge in agricultural education. Unfortunately, many students enrolled in agricultural degree programs have little exposure to the principles of crop production. As such, it is crucial to introduce beginners to the meaning, scope, and principles of agronomy.

The following information should be provided to newcomers in the field: an overview of agronomy, agriculture, and their meanings, scope, and significance; a historical perspective on the development of agriculture in the country and abroad; factors affecting plant growth; the role of manures and fertilizers; and an in-depth exploration of the principles of agronomy, including soil management, crop management, weed management, management of problematic soils, cropping systems, selection of planting materials, and their treatment. All of this information should be presented in simple language to facilitate comprehension.
