The sunny weather and sandy beaches of Rescue Bay, Florida, are just what Olivia Linscott needs after leaving a bad relationship and a lousy job. Her late mother, a woman Olivia never knew, has left her an animal shelter that is as much of a shambles as Olivia's life. She just wants to retreat, rebuild, and rediscover herself.



Then a skittish and wounded Golden Retriever leads Olivia to her cranky next-door neighbor's yard. Luke Winslow, a helicopter pilot with a painful secret, has lost his career and his purpose after a near-fatal crash that left him partially blind. Adrift and bitter, the last thing he wants is to get involved with anyone-or any dog. But neither one of them can resist the dog who needs some human intervention. In the process, Olivia and Luke might just find a way to heal and a reason to hope.
