The author began his political odyssey as an 18-year-old reporter for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He was a working reporter in Washington at the age of 21. He was awarded a prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard and won the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Distinguished Washington Correspondence.
