Dr. Barbara Perez had not been expecting anything out of the ordinary when she went to work that morning. That was before Jefferson City had been struck by a meteorite, leaving the hospital as one of the few buildings still standing. Cut off from any outside assistance, the hospital's staff was quickly overwhelmed by the number of survivors needing treatment.One patient transfers a strange energy to Barbara with his dying breath, making her Earth's new guardian. This draws her into a conflict older than human history. Torn between conflicting needs, Barbara must decided if she should stay and treat her patients, or search for the threat intent on eradicating all life on Earth? Can she succeed where her predecessor had failed? Will her new powers be enough to defeat a foe created solely for destruction?
