It has been adapted for film, television, and stage, as well as providing the basis for new works of literary fiction.

Set med nutidens øjne er sproget forfærdeligt opstyltet og spækket med tillægsord som var det en novelle i Søndags-bt, men det er samtidig en historie og et sprog af sin tid, der med sine tydelige dikotomier udgør et evigt gyldigt nedslag i oplysningen og formningen af det moderne
