Fortunes Reversed

The story is about a vengeful Argentinean Army officer driven to destroy the countries that defeated Argentina in the Falklands war. The retired Argentinean Army Colonel uses the Internet as a weapon of mass destruction, scheming to lay waste to the economies of Japan, Britain, and the United States by using computer viruses. The story opens with the senseless, brutal death of a newlywed wife in front of her husband, a US Marine Lieutenant, while on their honeymoon. Many months later, the young Marine is swept up in a deadly investigation of the Argentinean Colonel. Never imagining he could love again, the Marine, Jack Thompson, meets a beautiful woman in the small Mexican town he has traveled to in an effort to infiltrate the Colonel's organization. Unknown to him, he is chasing the same man who murdered his wife. His meeting with the exotic, Hispanic woman, Angelica, saves his life but places her own in danger. The two become lovers but Angelica deserts Jack in a moment of anger, leaving him wandering through the deserts of Mexico, where assassins assault him. Also unaware of the connection between them, the Colonel has ordered Jack's capture, wanting to learn the name of the traitor that put the US government on his trail. Angelica is kidnapped and used as bait to capture Jack. Her abduction begins a series of confrontations, leading across the Mexican desert to the stronghold of her captor.
