John Ware lived between 1845 and 1905. Born in South carolina, he spent his youth in Texas. However, most of John Ware's life was spent in Alberta, Canada, where he was a cowboy, soldier, and ranch owner. John Ware remains in the collective memory of Afro-Canadians and Albertans who knew him, as one of the most famous cowboys of Western Canada, a symbol of tolerance, of bringing people together and one of the greatest Canadian personalities of the world.
