Beskrivelse

Having made linguistic creativity his flagship, Henri Lopes was able to produce Tribaliques (a collection of short stories), La nouvelle romance and Le pleurer-rire (novels). It is through his works that he highlights what are really the linguistic specificities of the French language, its continental and especially African varieties. The objective of this book is to see how Lopes, after having constructed a purely African language, showed how the French language, which belongs to the French-speaking world, has cultural and regional particularities. He describes the French language as a place of enrichment, a place of remodelling, a place of innovation and a place of cohabitation where French, a foreign language, and Lingala, Teke and Kituba, mother tongues, clash peacefully. Through the reading of Lopes' texts, we want to understand in what mechanism and to what extent African speakers, especially Congolese, can innovate, create and better adapt the French language to their daily and cultural life.
