Harlan, Kentucky mayor Fred Knapp plans a super festival to celebrate the mysterious, powerful, historic artifacts that are placed on public display each year. North Korea's madman Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-un, envisions having possession of the artifacts as key to his plans for world dominion. Accordingly, he sends three teams to (1) steal the artifacts, (2) kill 10 North Korean deserters now residing in Harlan County, and (3) kill Harlan County Sheriff J. Bert Sterling. The Central Intelligence Agency uncovers information on his plans and sends agents to assist the sheriff. But the best help comes from Preacher Puss, the sheriff's amazing feline mascot that has gained a wide reputation for subduing crooks, and has even been made an honorary deputy sheriff. The CIA Director visits Dr. Randy Peters at his Center for Appalachian Research in Lexington and the two cook up a secret scheme to hopefully prevent the theft of the priceless artifacts. There are lots of mountain stories and humor included in this fast-paced mystery. The reader will also find many characters that were in the author's previous eight novels. Sandy A. commented, "I have enjoyed your work very much. I have all your books. Looking forward to this one!" Row C. said, "What a thriller! I especially enjoyed the humorous nature of it. Loved all of Mayor Fred Knapp's stories, and even Fatso's corny jokes. And that Preacher Puss was something else!" The author also includes a bit of romance in this last book with these characters. As did his previous books, Festival will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart.
