Encyclopedia of History of American Management

More than 250 entries have been selected from the Biographical Dictionary of Management (published 2001) and put together to form this unique work that traces the development of management thinking and major business culture in North America. The editor has adopted an inclusive policy, giving coverage of all the major business cultures and the development of management thinking and practise since the 17th century; key figures in management studies who have transformed our view of how businesses are run, including Michael Porter, Philip Kotler, Donald Schon, Herbert Simon, Alfred Schandler and Chris Argyris; important thinkers and practitioners as various as James Mooney, A.W. Shaw, Melvin Copeland and Henry Poor; people who pioneered management techniques in new industries, such as hospitals and tourism, film and media, computers and information technology, including figures as diverse as William Randolph Hearst, Samuel Goldwyn and Ray Kroc. Entries range from 600 words to 2500 words and contain concise biographical detail, a critical analyses of the thinkers' doctrines and ideas and a bibliography including the subject's major works and a helpful listing of minor works.All entries are fully indexed and cross-referenced.
