This evocative collection of images invites you to walk again on the pavements of bygone times and recalls the distinctive character of the district, much of which has been sacrificed for modern tower blocks had the building of Easton Way.

In this book familiar characters from the past are encountered as we wave off charabanc parties and observe children playing in thoroughfares free from traffic and pollution. Within these covers we watch the curtain go up on performances of the Tudor Players back in the 1940s, witness weddings and join in some of the street parties of long ago. The pictures include class groups of all the local schools from the turn of the century until the 1970s and many of the shots of streets, shops and public houses long since disappeared.
