Don't Eat the Dirt! brings the disparate perspectives of a child and her mother together with illustrations that immerse the reader in overlapping but very different worlds and experiences.

As the day progresses the child embarks on increasingly vivid adventures using her home to make new and exciting environments while mom becomes increasingly exasperated as she attempts to maintain order. In the end, they settle down together to read in a makeshift living room tent--which may end up inspiring new adventures.
