We're not off to a great start. The explanations are overly long and some of the overly long statements can be reduced to one sentence. For instance in chapter 1, page 19 he writes: "This is how people in developing countries can be happier than people in developed countries and how people in developed countries can be more miserable than people in developing countries" This can simply be reduced to the first half. For the first half to be true, the second half also has to be true and vice-versa. It's redundant to say the same thing twice. He uses several pages explaining what can be summarized in 2 sentences and one or two examples, not a dozen. His expectation of the reader's intelligence is jarringly low. Rather than being a thought-provoking book, it feels like reading a patronizing high school essay that goes on for too long. He also goes on a long rant that basically culminates to: Thoughts create, thinking destroys. The point being that you apparently shouldn't ever think about your problems because that will never end well. For a book about preventing overthinking the author has done a magnificent job putting his overthinking in written form. You can literally read the first 10 pages and then turn to *any* page in the rest of the book only to find the same damn point being reiterated but in slightly different wording. Who is this book for? It's almost 200 pages of the author regurgitating the first few pages over and over. This is the worst book I have read in 2024. 1/10
