From the moment he landed in the care of his uncle, Carl, in 1956, it was clear that Patrick Summers was no ordinary child. Brilliant but troubled, the sullen teen repeatedly lashed out at home and at school, until uncle and nephew finally came to an agreement.

In return for Patrick's efforts to stay out of trouble and do well in school, Carl would supply him with just about anything he wanted-from martial arts lessons, to dance classes, to sexual instruction from a prostitute.

Now, after graduating from law school at the top of his class, Patrick has big dreams for the future. He hopes to use his extraordinary intelligence to make a positive difference in the world-combating racism, religious discrimination, and other forms of social injustice.
