English summary: These volumes present letters 30-39 of the Syriac/Nestorian Patriarch Timotheus, which are edited here for the first time on the basis of a broad examination of manuscript sources, and offers the first translations of Timotheus' letters into a modern language. Within the lengthy letters 34 to 36, Timotheus outlines a unique method of interpreting the scriptures within the context of the Christian conflict with Islam. The interpretation of the title "servant" for Christ plays a central role in his thought. Jesus's role as the "suffering-servant" in Deutero-Isaiah had already gained currency in early Christian thought, but within the context of the political ascent of Islam this title was problematic because Muslims argued that Jesus was only a prophet and not the savior. Letters 30 to 33 and 37 offer insights into the earliest history concerning the transmission of letters 34 to 36. In letters 38 and 39, Timothy poses the question about how one should properly understand the texts of Gregory of Nanzianzus, which were used in the acts of the Council of Ephesus to condemn Nestorius.
