Der Birgittenorden, benannt nach der heiligen Birgitta von Schweden (1303-1373), gehort zu den kleineren Ordensgemeinschaften. Wahrend der Reformation erfuhr er seinen Niedergang. Im 17. Jahrhundert erlebte er eine spate Blute. In Polen, Spanien, in den Spanischen Niederlanden und in der Erzdiozese Koln entstanden neue Kloster. Die mittelalterlichen Grundungen behaupteten sich, soweit sie die Reformation uberstanden. The Birgittine Order, named after the Holy Birgitta of Sweden (1303-1373), belongs to the smaller orders of the catholic church. During the Reformation it saw its decline. In the 17th century the order had its late blossom. In Poland, Spain, in the Spanish Netherlands and in the archdiocese of Cologne new convents came into being. The foundations of the Late Middle Ages have maintained as far as they endured the Reformation."
