This research thesis undertakes a detailed analysis of historical insurance law doctrine that traces its development from the Prussian Landrecht (1794) to the modern Versicherungsvertragsgesetz (1908). Numerous historical sources show that, besides insurance practice, a wide range of other actors with completely different intentions has shaped the law that is still in force today.
