British sleuth Patrick Dawlish has his doubts when a case takes him into the dark side of spiritualism in this entrancing Golden Age mystery. Writer and psychic Charles Horden has no problem attracting the women of London. They seem to throw themselves and their money at him, leaving a trail of indignant husbands behind them. Patrick Dawlish's wife hasn't fallen prey to his charms, but she does believe that Horden is in danger. That's how Dawlish gets drawn into the strangest investigation of his crime-solving career. While harboring Horden at his home, Dawlish quickly learns that jealous spouses are the least of his worries. Nothing is beyond those pursuing Horden even murder. Someone is using the medium's powers to prey upon others, and it isn't the psychic himself.
