With the Sesquicentennial of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln almost upon us (2015), it is a good time to reflect on the events of 1865. Lincoln was the first president assassinated (although there had been an attempt on Andrew Jackson years before). Even after 150 years of research, there are still open questions about the death of Lincoln. What was the involvement of the Confederate Secret Service in Montreal, if any? Had Jefferson Davis or other Confederate leaders implicitly or explicitly approved of either the Lincoln kidnapping plot, or the assassination plot itself?
