Hot dogs, amusement parks, tourists, freaks... Coney Island is a true slice of New York City life. Along with the crowds enjoying fun in the sun, however, will always be a small element of those intent on ruining the good times through criminal and anti-social behavior. Accordingly, a strong police presence is imperative to allow people to enjoy the events and attractions of Coney Island safely. The New York City Police Department does a fantastic job policing Coney Island, but the island has been a major attraction drawing many thousands of people since the middle of the 19th century.
