Robert Binder is a prominent attorney currently waiting to hear from the White House about his appointment as Assistant Secretary to the Department of Health and Human Services. His wife, Ann, is a renowned economist and, quite possibly, a future Nobel Laureate. Their teenage son, JG, is a musical prodigy.

Then, late one night, while Robert is on a run to get Ann some cold medicine from a nearby pharmacy, he sees a woman being forced into a van. Robert immediately stops his car to intervene in the abduction and—a split second later—the Binders’ perfectly constructed world shatters.
