The NHS is revered in the United Kingdom, yet despite the excellence of its staff, it is a service in constant crisis. On the seventy-fifth anniversary of the NHS, overworked and harassed NHS staff were low in morale, leaving in record numbers for careers abroad, and patient dissatisfaction hit record highs, driven by sky-high expectations.

Something has gone very wrong.

In The Delusion, Dr Michael Christopher uses his own first-hand experience of healthcare in the UK and other countries, both as doctor and patient, to unlock the origins and mythology of the NHS. Stripping away the nostalgia, and demonstrating that there are more than two options: the UK and the American system, he shines a light on how healthcare systems in the rest of the world could provide us with the tools to fix what is broken, and improve the lives of patients and NHS staff alike.
