Beskrivelse

Bibliothek der Geschichte (Library of History) by Diodorus Siculus is a universal history that seeks to recount the major events of the world from a mythological age up to 60 BCE. Written in Greek, the work is divided into forty books, some of which survive only in fragments. This edition, edited by Friedrich Andreas Stroth and David Christoph Seybold, makes this important work of classical history accessible to German readers. Diodorus provides valuable, if sometimes uneven, information about the Hellenistic world, including the conquests of Alexander the Great and the rise of the Roman Republic. His work remains an important source for understanding the ancient world and the development of historical writing.
