Balloon-Assisted Enteroscopy

Balloon-assisted enteroscopy (BAE) was introduced in the early 21st century and has revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases.

Compared with video capsule endoscopy--the other principal tool for small bowel evaluation--BAE offers direct visualization, real-time tissue sampling, precise lesion localization, and definitive endoscopic therapy in a single session.

As BAE has become an essential procedure in daily clinical practice, there is an increasing need for a textbook on when and how to perform it and what technical factors should be considered.

In response to these needs, this book aims to provide a comprehensive overview including the historical development of BAE; device characteristics; indications and contraindications; detailed insertion techniques for double- and single-balloon enteroscopy; therapeutic applications; use in altered anatomy and other challenging scenarios; and a richly illustrated atlas of representative cases.
