Around Padstow

This portrait of a period at once familiar and remote illustrates the extensive changes which have overtaken the dairying district of suffolk since the end of Queen Victoria's reign. Many of the photographs recall scences still vivid in the memories of those alive today, but these views have more in common with nineteenth century than with the present one, so great has been the upheaval felt by agricultural economies. Not even the Black Death depopulated the rural landscape in the way modern farming has done.
