Beskrivelse

Traveling to this scenic location makes it simple to see why it has been known as one of the greatest marine sanctuaries in the world. The 74-hectare island serves as both a refuge for divers and a symbol of neighborhood-based marine conservation initiatives. Here, community efforts have paid off, as thriving coral gardens are home to a wide variety of marine life, from elegant sea turtles to colorful schools of fish, illuminating the underwater canvas with a riot of hues and life forms

Apo Island serves as a symbol of both the potential for human cooperation and peace with nature, in addition to the glories of the natural world. Since the beginning, the surrounding communities have taken the lead in creating and upholding a careful balance between using natural resources and keeping their coastal backyard in perfect condition. Locals have accepted their responsibilities as ocean guardians through community-led initiatives, developing a long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationship with the marine environment.

A noteworthy feature of Apo Island's sustainable development is the marine sanctuary, which is managed by the community. The villagers realized how urgently they needed to protect their marine resources from overexploitation, which gave rise to this campaign. The community set out on a mission to restore and preserve the delicate coral reefs and the variety of marine life they support, working closely with Siliman University in Dumaguete City
