Beskrivelse

This work presents an ethnohistory of the Djargurdwurrung Aboriginal people of Camperdown, Victoria, Australia. It presents a summary of the earliest references to the language, as well as an overview of clan organization. Djargurd placenames and associations with volcanism are discussed. An overview of Djargurd relations with Europeans is presented; along with a brief profile of James Dawson and Isabella Dawson - renowned advocates of Djargurd rights and reconciliation. References to the Djargurd found in travellers' accounts of their visit to the Camperdown district are highlighted; along with relevant excerpts from the annual reports of the Board for the Protection of Aborigines. Select newspaper articles on the Djargurdwurrung spanning 1851 to 2008 are presented; as well as a profile of massacres and killings that occurred in Djargurdwurrung Country.
