It is July 1950. Robert is a twelve year old boy. He has joined the local church choir to be with one of his friends and the fun of a yearly free day out at the seaside and being paid when the choir sing at weddings. He also tends to play the odd practical joke. He is quite sensitive and according to the ladies he is beautiful. Sandra is nearly seventeen and is a talented would be artist. She has a younger sister who it seems has never heard the phrase 'Demure young ladies'. Sandra needs to submit a portfolio of her artwork to the art school in the hope of becoming a student. Robert initially says he will pose for her but has no intention of doing so.
