Altern heute

Unübersehbar nimmt die Zahl alter und hochaltriger Menschen in unserer Gesellschaft zu. Die sich damit ergebenden Veränderungen werden im ersten Teil in folgenden Perspektiven skizziert: demografisch, biologisch, medizinisch, pflegerisch, psychologisch, soziologisch und sozial. Der zweite Teil reflektiert das Altern in biblischer Perspektive, einschließlich ihrer Wirkungsgeschichte, etwa im »Memento mori«-Konzept. Von da aus werden im dritten Teil exemplarisch handlungsorientierende Vorschläge entworfen; konkret zu den aktuellen Themen Ruhestand, Wohnen im Alter, Umgang mit Demenzkranken und Sterben im Alter. Den Abschluss bildet ein Ausblick: Altern in der Perspektive des Evangeliums – Herausforderungen und Chancen.[Aging Today. Challenges and Opportunities]It is impossible to ignore that the number of old and very old people in our society is increasing. The resulting changes are sketched in the first part from the following perspectives: demographic, biological, medical, nursing, psychological, sociological and social. The second part reflects on aging from a biblical perspective, including its impact in history, such as in the concept of »memento mori«. From there, in the third part, action-oriented suggestions are drafted as examples – specifically on the current topics of retirement, living in old age, dealing with dementia patients, and dying in old age. The conclusion is framed by an outlook: aging from the perspective of the Gospel – challenges and opportunities.
