Alkaloids

Alkaloids are a group of naturally occurring chemical compounds that contain mostly basic nitrogen atoms. This group also includes some related compounds with neutral and even weakly acidic properties. Alkaloids are produced by a large variety of organisms which includes bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals. Alkaloids from different chemical groups have been widely analyzed by different LC methods. Several separation and detection methods have been developed and applied for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of plant materials, extracts, dietary supplements, body fluids, and other natural samples. The book contains a general introduction to alkaloids, classification of alkaloids, extraction of alkaloids, and separation techniques for alkaloids.
