Laura Evans, a no-nonsense, self-proclaimed realist, journalist and famed novelist is overwhelmed when her friend and neighbor Susan goes missing just two weeks after Laura and her husband Neil's co-authored book In My Neighbor's House is published.

When circumstances surrounding Susan's disappearance closely resemble their book, they suspect a possible connection, driving them to unravel the mystery behind Susan's unexplained disappearance. How will they reconcile this twist of fate when fiction turns real as they begin their sequel to In My Neighbor's House?

Then Laura is hurled into a state of despair after her husband's tragic death, leaving her to solve the mystery of Susan's disappearance and complete the sequel alone.

Laura returns to her summer home in Maine where her resilient nature and sense of humor are shaken after several copy-cat incidents occur that only Susan would have known about. Reaffirming her heart-felt belief that, all along, Susan was alive, she is determined to find her friend, while unaware that to do so could possibly cost her own life.
