Beskrivelse

A Square Deal is a collection of speeches given by Theodore Roosevelt from 1902-1905. They were arranged and grouped by topic, by the journalist and close associate of Roosevelt, Mr. Horace Markley.

The overarching theme is 'the Square Deal,' the political tagline for Theodore Roosevelt's domestic agenda. It was meant to level the playing field for everyone, and hold everyone to a clear and fair standard. This meant raising the standards for workers with common sense safety and hygiene rules. It meant raising the standard on labor by restricting child labor. It meant breaking up trusts, i.e. monopolies, among railroads. It meant passing laws to clean up meatpacking plants. It meant equal protection for black and white Americans. It meant equality of opportunity so that every person could be the best they could become.

In his speeches he touches on how to apply this mindset to nearly every topic relevant to Americans, from farmers to Southerners, labor unions, immigrants, Indians and businessman.

This is a new edition of the public domain book that was originally published in 1906.

This new edition includes:

A new Foreword written by the PublisherFootnotes explaining some of the references and offering relevant context.New format, layout, typesetting.Several political cartoons of Roosevelt and the issues of his time have been gathered and reproduced.
