Beskrivelse
World War I was a bloodbath of such unprecedented proportions that for an entire generation it was simply known as the Great War. Casualty lists skyrocketed as battles were fought again and again for the same territory. The effect on Western civilization was profound, its repercussions felt even today.
In A Short History of World War I, James L. Stokesbury examines every aspect of "The War to End All Wars." Stokesbury analyses the war's complex military campaigns as well as the introduction of modern technology into the military arena, including tanks, airplanes, machine guns and poison gas. He also discusses key political events and places them within the context of modern European history. This concise volume is a highly readable retelling of one of the most momentous events of the last hundred years.
James L. Stokesbury is the author of A Short History of World War I, A Short History of World War II, A Short History of the Korean War, and A Short History of the American Revolution. Before his death in 1995 he was a professor of history at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada.
