A Promise of Water

Oswald Nightingale loved being a Texas Ranger, at least until he got fed up and quit. The only thing he might love more is his West Texas hometown, Broken Rock.In the midst of a devastating statewide drought, Nightingale is summoned to the governor's office and presented with a bargain too good to refuse. All he has to do is accompany a lawyer to East Texas and convince a holdout landowner to sell her property to the state for the construction of a reservoir. Once the woman sells, the governor will make sure Broken Rock has a reliable source of water.But when the landowner is murdered and a young teenager becomes the prime suspect, Nightingale faces a moral dilemma that pits his lifelong dedication to justice up against his loyalty to his family and friends.
